Just wanted to chime in on what I used (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kurtchambers/sets/72157624659819905/), which most photographers probably wouldn't go to the expense of getting, but I got one cheap on eBay. The equivalent of this: http://www.blacklight.com/items/ADJUVCANON. Mine doesn't show its brand name, but it's probably just like any other 400W black light. Was just looking for the fluorescent tubes and happened across this one on eBay for only $35! I can't be more grateful for my accidental fortune, as it became apparent to me that the 40W/4ft tubes are comparatively insufficient for the task (the one I had served as a mere prop, while the blacklight cannon sat 20ft away aimed at the entire backdrop!). This allowed me to shoot at 1/100s (I really didn't want to be stuck on a tripod), f/2 and ISO 800 (I have a full-frame, so noise wasn't an issue).

I have 4 tubes I use long shutter speeds & wide aperture and increase the ISO when I have to. 1/6 sec at f/1.4 works using ISO 100. I also use a tripod and make sure the model stays still!

I've been meaning to ask - for the black light stuff you've been doing, how have you managed to get a high enough wattage? Or have you simply been shooting very long shutter speeds?
